GSSM Foundation Receives $1,000 Grant from SPC Cares Foundation to Support Student Meal Plan
July 31, 2025
HARTSVILLE, S.C. (June 31, 2025) ─ The Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) Foundation has received a $1,000 gift from the SPC Cares Foundation, the charitable arm of SPC Credit Union, based in Hartsville. The donation will help provide financial assistance for a GSSM student from Darlington, Chesterfield, Florence or Marlboro counties toward their annual meal plan fee.
“SPC’s dedication to strengthening communities—especially through youth education—makes their partnership with GSSM a natural alignment,” said GSSM President Danny Dorsel, a member of the Class of 1990. “We are grateful for their generosity, which expands access to GSSM’s transformative STEM opportunities for even more students and families.”
This gift is part of the long-standing support GSSM has received from the Hartsville community.
As a public, residential high school, GSSM offers top-tier STEM education tuition-free to students in 11th and 12th grades; however, students are responsible for covering the cost of a meal plan each year.
Contributions like the one from the SPC Cares Foundation help remove financial barriers and reinforce GSSM’s commitment to serving students from all economic backgrounds.
