What is your educational background?
I got my BA and MA in History from the University of North Florida. While I started out as a Jazz Performance major, I found that the social sciences were more interesting and enjoyable. I then finished my education at The Ohio State University where I earned by PhD in History with a specialization in Colonial Latin American History.

Who is your favorite musical artist?
The jazz trumpet player Clifford Brown is my favorite musician. He died very young in the mid-1950s, but he left behind a ton of recordings. Listen to his versions of Cherokee, Parisian Thoroughfare, or April in Paris and tell me that something didn’t stir in your heart.
