Alumni Career Day

GSSM held the 4th annual Alumni Career Day on Saturday, April 5. Students heard about careers ranging from veterinarian to fighter pilot!

Attending The Townes Award Dinner

More than 400 people attend the annual Townes Award Dinner. Most of the attendees are business and government leaders, along with GSSM parents, faculty, staff and alumni. Only about 20 of the guests are current students. So, one might wonder what students think about attending this fancy event. Wonder no more! Life After GSSM

Carl Garris, GSSM class of 2013, is now a freshman history major at the University of South Carolina. It is easy to see how living in a dorm during high school would prepare you for college dorm life ... but what about the rest of the transition? It sounds like he hasn't skipped a beat!

GSSM Students Prepare for Future Roles as SC's Collaborative Leaders

For the fourth year in a row, incoming juniors at the South Carolina Governor's School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) will kick off the two-year residential high school program by tackling a challenge course at Saluda Shoals Park, Monday, August 18, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All 145 11th graders will travel from GSSM's Hartsville campus to Saluda Shoals Park in Columbia.

Accelerate Campers Debate Energy Sources

Accelerate students, after a week-long exploration into six forms of alternative energy, will showcase what they have learned during an energy source debate. The camp, held June 22-27, on the University of South Carolina's (USC) campus in partnership with the South Carolina Governor's School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) and the USC College of Engineering and Computing, is part of GSSM's new virtual engineering program, Accelerate.

Second Year of Accelerate Begins with Engineering Camp at USC

Students in the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics’ (GSSM) new virtual engineering program, Accelerate, kick off year two of the three-year program with an engineering camp at the University of South Carolina (USC). Accelerate’s unique curriculum includes virtual classes at locations across the state, Saturday experiences on GSSM’s campus, and week-long summer camps, resulting in as many as 32 college credits toward an engineering degree.

Post graduation, the South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) continues to celebrate the accomplishments of its talented seniors. GSSM congratulates six students who were named National Merit Finalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). The finalists’ abilities, skills and accomplishments will be considered as the winners of the National Merit Scholarship Awards are chosen by July 2014.

GoSciTech 2014 Begins on GSSM's Campus

GoSciTech, the School’s annual, residential, summer camp experience, kicked off on Sunday, June 15, 2014. The camp, which takes place on the GSSM campus in Hartsville, will run for four weeks: June 15 - 21, June 22 - 28, July 6 – 12, and July 13-19.

GSSM Kicks Off iTEAMS Camp for Rising 7th & 8th Graders Technology-based summer camp in Greenwood & Greenville Counties

On June 16, 2014, the South Carolina Governor's School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM), in partnership with Greenwood County School Districts and Greenville School District, kicked off its iTEAMS camps for Greenwood and Greenville County students. iTEAMS will be held June 16-19 at Greenwood High School and Hughes Academy for rising 7th and 8th graders who have a strong interest in computer science, technology and entrepreneurship.

Piedmont Natural Gas Supports GSSM’s Summer Program in Spartanburg

GSSM is pleased to announce Piedmont Natural Gas has contributed $5,000 in support of iTEAMS Spartanburg, GSSM’s four-day technology, computer science and innovation camp for rising 7th and 8th graders, held in 10 counties across the state. GSSM will be hosting iTEAMS at no cost to campers at Carver Middle School from July 7-10, 2014.

GSSM Partners With Time Warner Cable Connect A Million Minds

Time Warner Cable reached their goal of connecting a million minds to STEM. Through their investment in Accelerate, GSSM's virtual engineering program, and GoSciTech, our residential summer camp, Time Warner Cable has helped students across SC experience our STEM education programs. We're proud to be a partner with Time Warner Cable's Connect A Million Minds mission.
