Back by popular demand!

Join us this summer for an online live project-based learning opportunity!  You'll log in twice a day to interact with your classmates and instructor, and you'll spend some time offline working on self-guided projects. Your instructor will even have virtual "office hours" to help you work through any questions or challenges in real-time! Materials needed for projects will be sent to students in the Summer STEM kit before camp.

Who is eligible to apply to Summer STEM?

Rising 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th graders who have demonstrated scholarship in science and math and desire an academically challenging STEM summer experience. Students must submit their 2020-21 first semester report card as part of their application and must have a B average or higher in order to be enrolled in Summer STEM.

2022 Summer STEM program dates:

Students must submit their 2021-22 first semester report card as part of their application and must have a B average or higher in order to be accepted. If you are applying for other summer programs with GSSM you only need to submit one report card for all of the programs.

Required Equipment & Materials

  • Personal email address (student or parent; must be able to receive outside emails) to access Canvas, our web-based learning platform, and receive all notifications and communications from instructors
  • Computer with internet connection that can handle video conferencing using Zoom
  • Headset recommended for audio quality, but not required
  • Some courses require additional equipment and/or software as indicated in the course description below.  Be aware that Chromebooks may not be able to run some software.

GSSM cannot be held responsible to block inappropriate internet material from your family’s computer or internet connection. GSSM firewalls do not protect your home networks. Instructors will provide websites for students to explore, and they cannot be held responsible for popup ads or other links that the student may follow.

Cost, Deposit, & Payment Deadlines

Tuition for each course is $150. Tuition covers instructors and materials for projects, unless otherwise noted.

A $25 non-refundable deposit is required within two (2) weeks of acceptance into Summer STEM program in order to secure your class preference. Full payment is due June 1st, 2021.  Students may be withdrawn from the class and will not receive a refund of previously paid funds if final payment is not paid by the due date. To secure your spot in a selected course, early non-refundable deposits are encouraged. Please make checks payable to GSSM, with the camper's name written on the ledger line.

The application deadline of May 15, 2021 has been extended until all classes are full.

Financial Assistance

South Carolina families interested in applying for financial assistance may do so within the online application. A limited amount of financial assistance is available and it is awarded using a need-based formula.The financial assistance application deadline of April 15, 2021 has been extended until all fund are awarded. Additional assistance may become available after the deadline, so please check with the camp director if the deadline has passed.

Financial assistance is awarded on a need and first-come, first-served basis.
