Posted: 2 months 2 weeks ago

Company/Organization: South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics

Location: South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics

As a school recognized for academic excellence and committed to the holistic experience of our students, the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) invites applications for Resident Assistants (RAs). This part-time, live-in position is essential to the development and facilitation of the residential experience of GSSM students. Responsibilities include assisting residents, building community, and understanding and interpreting standards.

The residence hall at GSSM is divided into six Houses and RAs are assigned to each house. RAs assist the Residence Life Coordinators (RLCs) in managing the floor and developing an environment conducive to the intellectual, ethical, and personal growth of students. These paraprofessionals are expected to be role models, recognizing that GSSM is a high school with high-school aged students.

This is a temporary, part-time position that requires RAs to live in the residence hall.  Room, board, and some other amenities are a part of the compensation. In addition to what this position contributes to the school, there are opportunities for Resident Assistants to grow and build their skills. GSSM supports the personal and professional development of undergraduates who are selected to participate.

Essential job functions comprise some of the following:

•    Participate in all training activities before the opening of school in August and throughout the year
•    Be visible in the residence hall and regularly interact with residents
•    Participate in the RA duty rotation, but maintain visibility on campus when not on duty
•    Complete duty reports and provide incident reports as directed
•    Conduct room inspections and oversee students in suite rotations (the cleaning of common areas in the various Houses)
•    Plan programs and activities for the residents under the supervision of the RLCs
•    Report and address violations of the GSSM Discipline and Honor as outlined in the Student Handbook
•    Complete other duties as assigned by the Residence Life Coordinators and the Dean of Students

Qualifications:

Applicants should be undergraduates who have completed the first year of college or with related experience (e.g. working with camps) with good academic and conduct standing at their educational institution.  We require that applicants have a valid driver’s license and be able to provide proof of their enrollment.

Please apply electronically by providing a letter of interest and resume to kgedris@governors.school.  Upon receipt, the GSSM Employment Application will be forwarded to you for completion.

GSSM is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
