GSSM Senior Honored at Boeing STEM Signing Day
May 18, 2021
HARTSVILLE, SC – On April 29, 2021, Boeing honored 600 students nationwide who plan on studying in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) field in college. Among those were 92 from South Carolina, and 2 from each county. GSSM Senior Tianna Kidd was honored as one of the STEM Scholars.
The virtual event featured remarks from SC Governor Henry McMaster, Lane Ballard, Vice President and General Manager 787 Program and Boeing South Carolina, and Vanessa Wyche, Deputy Director, Johnson Space Center, NASA and an audience of over 1,145. Boeing went on to introduce a year-long mentorship program at the end of the ceremony, where this year’s group of students will be able to engage with Boeing mentors throughout their first year of college.
This highly selective ceremony was similar to a signing day for athletes. Each student signed a letter of intent to pursue their STEM goals.
“The STEM field is always changing,” said Tianna Kidd. “I am thrilled to be a part of the new wave of scientific change and innovation.”
Kidd plans to study Biology and French at the Neuroscience Program at Wofford.
