Did you know that electricity travels at the speed of light? Or that a spark of static electricity can measure up to 3,000 volts? Have you ever wondered how you can control electricity? Have you ever wanted to create your own circuit board?

Then you should sign up for ENGAGE!

Early experiences with STEM help to build students’ confidence with new technologies. That’s why we’ve created ENGAGE. Delivered by GSSM’s Center for Science Education & Outreach, ENGAGE is designed to impact students through early interest and awareness of STEM studies.

One nine-week after-school ENGAGEMENT will be delivered this semester to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students.

It’s Electric! All About Circuits: Activities will center on the fundamentals of electrical circuits through breadboarding and electronics. Students will use critical thinking skills and deductive reasoning as they explore ways to create electrical circuits using a variety of materials.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM ENGAGE

  • Nine in-person sessions of captivating fun learning new skills while building projects using a solderless breadboard and various electrical components.
  • Opportunities to connect with GSSM’s residential students who will serve as instructors and role models.

ENGAGE will be held on the GSSM campus. ENGAGE students, their families, and all visitors are expected to follow the school's COVID-19 safety protocols. For more information regarding GSSM’s protocols, click here or call the Outreach Center at 843-383-3958.

Space is limited to 10 students per class.

Note: To successfully complete the ENGAGE experience, attendance at all nine sessions is required.
